Weekend Wonderings

Cake. Cake cake cake.

This recipe for Grapefruit Sandwich Cake is by the lovely Beca from Great British Bake Off. I’m incredibly sad that she’s gone, I’ve spent this week very confused about where my loyalties now lie. I loved Ruby to start with yet now I want to bop her on the head with a mixing spoon. Kimberley was very pleasant until she got super smug and Frances… I want to sasy I don’t like her, but I fear that would be a lie. I think it’s plain old jealousy. I mean, HOW clever and creative do you need to be with a cake, for crying out loud?

I’m very happy indeed with a good old two layer cake with allllllll the buttercream. Or, in this case, cream cheese icing (frosting?) This one is tangy and zesty and downright delicious. Depending on how much grapefrui syrup you use you’ll get a sponge that’s somewhere between moist and gooey – neither of these are a hardship, lets be honest. You’ll also end up with an excess of grapefruit curd which is the BOMB on toast. Yum.

Happy weekend, all.

Kimberley to win, not because I love her but because she’s clearly the best baker.

    I miss Beca, though.

I agree Katielase, I think Kimberley has been the most consistent but I’m not rooting for her like I was for Beca. Or Howard! *wails*

This made me giggle – the many faces of Ruby in gif form – http://www.buzzfeed.com/mattb133/the-many-faces-of-gbbos-ruby-tandoh-f6wx

I’ll try not to be mean… But I will miss Beca. I now have to root for Frances, I think they’re a little unfair to her and I love seeing what she does every week. I will say nothing about the other two.

Beca was fab, gutted when she left, she just had the best sense of humour. Really liked Kimberley to start with but couldn’t put my finger on why she was annoying me but you’re right, she’s really smug now. Still want to eat all her cakes though.

I miss Howard too. And Ali. And Glen.

Everyone….lets not be too hard on Ruby and her incredibly annoying doe eyes at Paul. Because the whole of the UK wants to ram her doe eyes (and her multi tasting life style that means she can’t possibly practice AT ALL) up her ****

Frances is more style than substance….I can say this having never eaten anything of hers but someone who is more concerned with the correct shape and size of a carrot needs to get a grip.

Basically….in my head….the winner is irrelevant because Howard should have won.

I so wanted Beca to win, she was an incredible baker and so very lovely. I love the rapport she had with Mel and Sue, a TV baking star of the future I am sure.

In her absence I think I am with Katielase – it has to be Kimberley because she is the best baker xx

I was keen on Kimberley all the way through – she was consistently good, and cheery! – but she didn’t have a good final! Beca was fab, was so sad to see her go. Generally though I just loved the excuse to eat lots and lots of cake!
