Lucy Stendall Photography – A Beginners Photography Workshop

Readers, I am so excited about this, and so jealous of everyone who gets to go to this (damn living on the other side of the world). Lucy taught me a huge amount about photography, and has been key in my photography journey so far, so I know that whoever is lucky enough on this course will learn so so much.

Over to Lucy to tell you more:

A few months ago, some fellow Any Other Woman readers approached me about running a photography workshop (you know who you are!). After putting the feelers out on Twitter it turns out a fair few of you are keen photographers and you’d like to get together and learn more about one of your favourite hobbies. Everything is now in place for this to happen.

I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Nottingham and a long term supporter of AOW. So I’ve hired a beautiful space at one of my favourite venues in the heart of Nottingham’s historic Lace Market because if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. I think you’ll like this place a lot. The hotel is walking distance from national rail and bus stations, car parking and tram links so it’ll be easy for you to get to wherever you are from. If you are travelling from some distance, there are hotels for all budgets in the city centre.

The day is aimed at beginners of all abilities, whether you are a blogger, a small business owner or just a keen amateur. It doesn’t matter what kind of camera you have, there is something for everyone on the day. All you need to bring is yourself, your camera and a stash of enthusiasm. All I want is for you to end the day with more confidence in your skills and knowledge of photography than when you arrived and to have had some fun along the way.

Throughout the day I will give bite size presentations on a range of topics from understanding light and composition to getting off auto settings and learning about manual shooting, with lots of example images from my portfolio. There will be also be lots of opportunities for you to have your questions answered. Anything goes, and you’ll be in a small supportive group where there is no such thing as a silly question.

This will be a hands on workshop, so you won’t be stuck inside all day. There are some amazing spots in this part of the city for you to participate in some group challenges to allow you to practice and reinforce what you’ll learn.

On the day, lunch and refreshments at the hotel will be provided for you, included in the price. There will also be copies of the workshop notes for you to take away and keep. A little bird told me there might also be goody bags so…watch this space.

Also, all workshop attendees will be invited to join our group Facebook page where you’ll have the chance to make friends with everyone else ahead of the day, and keep in touch afterwards, to share your images and hopefully support one another.

If you would like to come along, there are just 12 places available at £99 each. Just email me to buy your ticket.

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
