Any Other Photo {Frances and Alan}

When I look at Frances’ choice for her Any Other Photo, I see strength, love and togetherness in the very act of being quiet. Which I suppose, when you break it down, is what a marriage is supposed to be about, except you rarely get a second in most marriages to notice it.  Frances and Alan fit, perfectly, and this photograph will forever remind them of it.

Beautiful moment captured by Ross Holkham Photography.  Over to you, Frances:

I see many AOPs which have special stories attached. When I look at our photos though, I see moments in time. I see glimpses of emotions which I didn’t know would be there. I look at our photos and I find myself transported back to each moment – where I was, who I was talking to, why one person or another is laughing at something unspoken or unseen, how happy my parents look.

It’s odd then, that when I went back through my AOP shortlist (yup, I’m nothing if not methodical), the photo that makes my heart skip and my stomach flutter is one that I then struggle to write about.

This photo was taken after our ceremony; we’d just walked through a tunnel of our guests throwing all the confetti (you can see it still in my hair, it got everywhere). It was the first time we’d been alone together as a married couple, and we were sitting in the car waiting for our bridesmaids to join us.

Not so much a story, really, as a simple moment of gaining comfort and strength from each other; a moment where just the slightest touching of noses and a nestle into Alan’s shoulders lets me know that he is there, we are together and everything is right with the world. I feel like I fit into his shoulders; it’s where I’m supposed to be.

This wouldn’t be the photo to sum up our day, which was full of friends and family, giant smiles, a lot of laughter, great food and a packed dance floor. But it’s the photo I will come back to in the hard times. It’s the photo that shows me the peace, the security and the confidence I have in my love for my husband. And I can’t stop looking at it.

    Crikey, this has me all over emotional this morning. It’s such a beautiful photo Frances, but this: ‘it’s the photo I will come back to in the hard times. It’s the photo that shows me the peace, the security and the confidence I have in my love for my husband’ really got to me. Congratulations xxx

    This is beautiful. I look at this photograph and think of the smell of my husband’s skin, it’s enough to calm my heart whatever has gone on that day. Thank you for sharing, I love AOP days!

      That’s exactly it! It’s odd how a smell or an image can instantly calm the soul.

    Frances – your flowers are absolutely gorgeous. As is the whole beautiful picture but I am seriously in love with those flowers! x

      I really wanted blue flowers in my bouquet and love hydrangeas – in hindsight they’re a bit delicate for a long day of being carried around though, but I just love the colour and texture!

    This is such a beautiful AOP and exactly why I love AOPs!!

    It’s not necessarily about the picture that sums up your day, it’s the picture that when you look at it can take you back to a moment. The smell of your husbands skin (as Lucy said), what you could hear and the exact way you felt in that exact moment.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Just lovely! What a wonderful photo.

    And the dress is gorgeous too – think we need an additional photo just so we can see more of it.

    Thank you everyone for such lovely words, I’m very touched. We didn’t know this photo existed until we saw it, which makes it even more special to me.

    There are some photos of the dress on my mini-blog corner of the internet if anyone wants a look :-)
