Any Other Photo {Amy and James}

I’ve already written a kind-of-introduction to Amy and James’ AOP…

‘Have you ever seen a mermaid in a field? Or a ballerina in a marquee wearing a flower crown? Have you seen a stunningly restored VW camper van festooned in ribbon parked next to it’s shiny, be-ribboned comrade, the Mark I Golf? Did you know that 5 minutes walk along a country lane from The White Swan in Newton-Upon-Rawcliffe is the sort of view that makes your heart skip a beat and your senses tingle? Have you ever sat down with a dozen women for dinner, some of whom you’ve never met before, and laughed until your face hurt? Have you seen pure, unadulterated love on a dancefloor?’

Amy has picked a picture that doesn’t really reference any of the above-mentioned awesomeness. You don’t get to see Bertie (yet) or Amy’s STUNNING backless dress (yet) or the insanely amazing amount of cake available to us porkies (again, yet. Amy, can you tell we’re angling for a wedding report?!) You do, however, get a glimpse of that group of crazy women who met for dinner before descending on Amy’s reception and going crazy on the dancefloor. I know I speak for us all, and those who weren’t able to be there on the day but did contribute, when I say that it was am absolute pleasure, Amy.

*MASSIVE thanks to Captain Organised herself, Anna K and to her band of merry helpers – Mahj, Roz and Laura.*

In the past 2 days I have already seen hundreds of photos from our wedding, with hundreds more still to come, and in approximately 98% of them I have my head thrown back and mouth wide open laughing. Which is weird because my overwhelming memories of the inutterably perfect day all involve me crying.

It started at 5am when Penny tweeted me a link to YouTube to a video of her and Sam singing me a wedding song.

Then a lovely message James forwarded me from his friends mum who was sadly widowed last year.

And when I dropped our overnight bag off at our boutique b&b and the lovely owner Barbara (yes Lucy, really!) was reassuring me about the rain which was presently so torrential there was a river running down the road through the village.

Walking into the marquee and seeing how my mum, dad, brother and his girlfriend had been in there since 8am in the rain bringing my many lists, itineraries, Pinterest boards and bags full of crap from the pound shop to life.

Turning the corner in Bertie at Low Dalby and seeing our guests assembled on the roof terrace as the rain had FINALLY stopped.

James tells me I cried ALL through the ceremony but I only remember clinging to his arm like a limpet and laughing at our messed-up vows - ’I will comfort you with my gentleness’ being our favourite…I hasten to add there was a mix-up, we definitely didn’t CHOOSE those! (Turns out crying, laughing and grinning like a loon all at the same time is much easier than you’d think – those eyelash extensions were the best wedding investment I made!)

My dads speech when he compared me to Lizzie Bennett and quoted P&P (“I could not have parted with you my dear to anyone less worthy”).

James’s speech when he recounted how we got together almost word for word how I had written it for my own speech (which I then forgot to give)!

All of these things were in no way unexpected. I had been an emotional wreck in the run up and cried without provocation at pretty much anything.

What I did not expect was what came later. At around 7pm more cars began to pull on to the campsite and a flock of lovely ladies (and one man) descended for the evenings festivities. We hugged, we kissed, I introduced everyone to James (and in some cases myself), we lined up according to the colour spectrum and posed for photos. And then Laura, who I had just met, handed me a perspex Bertie which I pronounced the coolest. thing. ever! And then I realised there was something written on it.

And I read it.

And then this happened.

Moment captured by Emma Case. Flower crown by Anna. General stunningness, model's own.

It’s an understatement when I say I was already overwhelmed that this group of women reacted so positively when I emailed them over Christmas and invited them. I was wholly expecting everyone to think I was a weird internet fan girl. Instead people spent months planning outfits, and room buddies, and long trips from all over the country.

And then on top of that they bought us a HOLIDAY! In a yurt. With a wine and cheese hamper.

Any Other Women – you are the absolute fucking best!!!

Am walking the dog and half crying/half laughing remembering this. I don’t think I’ve ever simultaneously eaten so much cake and danced so hard at the same time in my life.

Amy, you will always be a mermaid in a field to me!

Love this AOP, your flower crown is immense.
Please write a wedding report, after hearing so much about your wedding on twitter and seeing a few pics on The Olive Dragonfly I am desperate to hear all about the wedding from the mermaid herself xxxx

Eeeeeeeeee!! What a gorgeous write up. And, FYI, i am insanely jealous you can look that stunning whilst weeping. It’s a talent I tell you.

Oh I felt so terrible that you started crying!

But, you invited us. The ‘AOWettes’ as I’ve just seen bandied around twitter. You are so incredibly generous to invite us and you deserve nothing more!

Your wedding was the first one I’ve ever cried at, don’t know if I’m still in the post-wedding loved-up phase or what but your first dance, good grief. I have never seen so much love in 5 square meters.

    Bloody love that Emma Case.

What a perfect evening, I love that you have your head thrown back laughing on almost all the photos I have of you from the wedding.

If you don’t write a wedding report I’ll cry.

Oh Amy, I adore this photo. You have such a beautiful, expressive face, every emotion just jumps out of you and it’s incredible, I feel transported back in time.

Hugest thank you for inviting us to be part of your day. It was a great honour and an incredible pleasure, I know we all had an amazing time, and felt so special to be allowed to share in your wonderful day with you and James. And it was So. Much. Fun!

Thank you Anna K for being an inspirational organisational powerhouse. I feel awful that I wasn’t more involved in sorting the present, so from me a really giant thank you to those who really were.

    K xxx

PS: Penny’s video was the BEST THING EVER!

Beautiful Amy, being this cool AND probably the most photogenic bride I have ever seen should be ILLEGAL.

I was so gutted when I realised we would be otherwise engaged for your big day but the AOW rainbow army made me feel like I was right there with all of you. You are all amazing women and I am still coveting Anna ‘s stupendous yellow dress.

    Congratulations, gorgeous girl.

Ok so I was managing not to try until the line about your dad quoting P&P and that tipped me over the edge! So unbelievably perfect.

You look so bloody beautiful it’s untrue, and I NEED your wedding report in my life. I have heard so much about the first dance that photos of this must be included in said report – pretty please?
