Any Other Photo {Claire and Maurice}

***This weekend is a bank holiday weekend, folks…and as a result, we’ll be back with you bright and early on Tuesday.  Have a glorious long weekend!***

I know, without any preamble, that you, readers, will love this AOP.  No hyperbole.  Read the text, look at the picture, and just try to deny it.  Captured in this photograph is a moment of sheer joy.  One which makes me catch my breath, and will make you catch yours, and smile, and think back to the times when you were happiest.  And that, really, is what we want photographs to do.

I’ll let Claire explain why:

It’s taken me a while to pluck up the courage to finally send in my AOP, we have been married 18 months though that old cliché is that it only feels like yesterday.  I always thought maybe I didn’t have a photo that was good enough to grace these gorgeous pages but as the months go on I have realised what a great community this is and how nice it is to be able to share in everyone’s photos.

I am going to start with the whole, it’s not a professional photo, this one was taken by my brother, a moment of sheer delight captured forever.

We had been together a long time when we eventually got married, 10 years in fact so it was a long time coming, and for those 10 years I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was the man I was going to marry and that I wanted to do it abroad.  Though this was a scary thought in itself, would people want to travel?, would by getting married abroad mean I wouldn’t get the same experience as getting married in the UK?, would people make the effort?

We carried on though, once we seen our venue in Spain and our whitewashed chapel and quaint flower lined streets both our minds were set, Spain would be where we would be tying the knot.

We were very lucky and were joined for 50 of our nearest and dearest and the wedding was all I could ask for and more. I finally married the love of my life.

This photo brings me straight back to that day, I can still feel the joy that I felt, the joy that made me shriek in delight and clap my hands on the steps of the church.  Why you might ask?  Because the effort was made, even though we had got married abroad.  This is the moment I shrieked it’s purple, I had purple confetti! Confetti that matched my wedding colours and this was the moment I realised it, the moment I realised how much we were loved by those around us and how much effort they put into to the little things like this that we had no idea about.

The moment where the happiness of finally marrying the love of my life, of being surrounded by those I love hit me.  A moment I will never forget.

    Oh, oh, this so perfectly sums up one of the most amazing things about getting married, that surreal moment when it hits you that everyone is there for you, because they love you and they’re so so happy for you. I remember that tidal wave of emotion and joy and love. Amazing photo.

      I love this image, a lone, otherwise altogether woman, having a moment in the beautiful station that is St. Pancreas. I also love your picture and story behind the image Claire, memories to cherish. x

    Readers – we’re in need of more Any Other Photos – so if you’re halfway through one, or considering writing one, please do….we’d love to post it. Alternatively, you could just rush out and get married again just to write us one. Yes. The things we ask you to do for us.

    If any of you have mothers or grandmothers who’d like to tell you about their favourite wedding photo – we’d be honoured to post it.

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
