Any Other Photo {Emma and Daniel}

Another Friday, lovely readers. (One more until CHRISTMAS. I KNOW.) And another Friday means another Any Other Photo. But this is not just *any* Any Other Photo. This is a submission that had Anna in bits and me sobbing like a small child the minute in landed in our inboxes.

Its magic is in its innocence, its honesty, it’ simplicity. I love it when we get a good back story to an AOP, and one that includes the names of Norfolk villages is a pretty awesome one, you’ll no doubt agree.

Cereal bowls of the AOW readership, look out. You’re about to be cried into.

My Any Other Photo is all about our relationship. In this photo we’re hugging, like the photographer asked, but we’re also smirking a bit. Which I actually don’t like about this photo, because I think it makes us both look a bit stupid. What I do love about this photo is the memory of the moment. The sound of Daniel’s heartbeat is one of my favourite things and in this moment I could put my face to his chest and listen, relax and just be happy. And then this happened:

Heart-wrenchingly beautiful image captured by Haydn Ridings

We were both so so tired by this point. I’d been awake since 5.30am, and Daniel hadn’t got to bed till gone midnight the night before and had been up at 7am and we were both ready for some sleep. As the photographer asked us to close our eyes I quipped that we might just both take a nap whilst he snapped away. And then Daniel pretended to snore. We once went on holiday to Norfolk and passed through the villages of Little Snoring and Great Snoring. Since then we’ve had a silly joke where we both do a little snore and then a great snore. Well, thats exactly what Daniel started doing. Little and Great Snores alternately whilst the photographer snapped away and looked at us as if we were both bonkers. The memory of the holiday is precisely why we are both smirking like smug loons in this photo.

I love this photo for the memory of it, the memory within the memory. When I look at this photo I remember the sound of Daniel’s heartbeat, his kiss in my hair and the joke of his pretend snoring which caused the silly smiles. I feel like the photographer captured our entire relationship in the second that he clicked the shutter. All of its silly in-jokes, warm moments between us and the love that our wedding day encapsulated, all preserved in this one photograph of one moment.

    If we get one photo that I like from our wedding, I want it to be THIS ONE.

    It took me about two minutes to see the Bride in this one (sorry) because I was just so captivated by the way the groom is looking at her. It’s like he just got asked to be a Jedi and a Premiership footballer and got the keys to Wonka’s chocolate factory at the same time.

    My favourite AOP in ages.

        Thanks Anna, It was a white rose, lavender and we asked for stephanotis but got jasmine i think. All of our flowers were silk, I have Daniel’s button hole and my bouquet in our living room.

    I especially love love LOVE that you’ve just made me giggle out loud to myself at Great Snoring and Little Snoring and the sharing of in jokes. To someone who doesn’t know you it doesn’t look like you’re smirking at all, it looks blissful. I don’t know what word I’m searching for so using ‘lovely’ isn’t going to do it justice, but there’s something so lovely and so perfect about Emma’s description of hearing Daniel’s heartbeat. AOP you always make me feel so warm and cosy on a Friday morning, thank you!

    It always seems so amazing that a photo of one moment can capture so much and mean so much, and the fact that there are so many layers to this photo is beautiful. I think Emma you describe excatly what a hug should feel like, and I love that you will always have this photo that means so much, and from which the love just shines!
    (as an aside, I lived in Little Snoring for a little while!)

    Love this Emma and as Elsie said to me it really doesn’t look like either of you are smirking more that you’re just really, really happy. Gorgeous photo- you’re a true blushing bride!! Really so lovely. Thank you for sharing it with us.
