Remember when…

Any Other Woman was born? Remember all those AMAZING competitions we ran? Sarah and her fiance Craig won this incredible giveaway from AOW favourite Erika Szostak of Photo Madly and proceeded to style and star in their very own uber-fabulous, totally personal and engagement shoot.

This post is VERY picture heavy, but I don’t apologise for it. It was the sunshine, you see. I looked through the pictures and I was trying so hard to narrow them down and the sun kept shining out of the screen and Sarah and Craig look so awesome and there are DOGS and so….I chose lots of pictures. You’re welcome.

Erika and her assistant for the day, Andrew, met Sarah (aka Miss Cake) and Craig and their delicious dogs, Marmite and Milo at Newhaven Harbour close to where the couple live and on the stretch of beach where they walk every day. I want to live by the beach…

I asked Sarah to tell us a little about their inspiration for the shoot and their plans for what will clearly be a ridiculously stylish wedding…what she told me made me more than a *little* jealous, I’m not going to lie.

Sarah – After living together for over 5 years, having 2 dogs (Milo and Marmite) who we treat like our sons and running a business together Craig finally gave in and proposed last January (2011)! We both knew that we didn’t want a traditional wedding in any way nor did we want to spend loads of money on essentially what is one day. We have both travelled quite a bit, both backpacking before we were together and on trips together so getting married abroad was the obvious choice for us. The only problem was finding where to go! We knew that we wanted to go somewhere interesting that we had never been to, that would also be suitable for our beach-holiday loving parents and our backpacking friends and for the marriage to be legal in the UK. India was our first thought but it was not possible to legally marry there in the time we had so we then thought of Sri Lanka, which ticked all of the boxes. We are planning to marry in tea plantation house set in a tropical garden which we have exclusively hired for the day and much to our delight we have around 24 guests coming who are all doing their own tailor-made trips, staying in a variety of places from 5* resorts to beach huts. We are planning to DIY as many of the details as possible and I am currently in the middle of making metres and metres of vintage sari bunting, we plan to have an east meets west fusion of style.

Sounds phenomenal, no?

Sarah – This leads on to the inspiration for our photoshoot… the story behind the shoot is our journey to Sri Lanka and it is based on the beach just up the road from where we live. It is where we walk our dogs everyday and a favourite place of ours with a lot of lovely memories. With Erika’s input we created a story of our engagement and travel to Sri Lanka.

Sarah’s dress was made by the super-talented Louise at Oh My Honey, I adore the way Erika has captured it in this shot…

And this shot makes me need a dog. Yes, need.

Sarah and Craig made use of a wicked selection of props in their shoot – Sarah makes these herself and you can go see the magic over at Miss Cake.

You see what I mean about the weather, don’t you? So gorgeous. Makes me want to do this…

I thik it’s safe to say that these two are going to have the most incredible day. Not just because they’ve got a magical venue in a beautiful country and will be surrounded by the happiest, most chilled out guests in the world but because they’re so totally in love. We wish them all the luck in the world for their next adventures and can’t WAIT to see the wedding pictures!

Thank you to Sarah, Craig, Marmite and Milo for sharing their gorgeous shoot and a huge thank you to the wonderful Erika for being such a star to work with and all-round good egg.

Sri Lanka is AMAZING. We had our honeymoon there – the people are so friendly, the food is great and the whole country is a visual feast! I would go back in an instant if I could. You’ll have a fantastic time.

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
