Doorknobs and Dresses

A busy few weeks for my growing family (current tally: 2 adults, 2 cats, 5 kittens (1 went to live next door – sob) and a rapidly growing baby Stella – don’t mention the husky puppy that Phil is begging for) has left me royally shattered.

Superb marketing from a bubble bath company, spanking 70's decor at Pat's Pad, Lucy's birthday party, a cat in a bowl and Belmo's wedding.

We have a family wedding this weekend that’s Kind Of A Big Deal and whilst I’m so, so, so looking forward to seeing Phil’s sister and her man say their vows, I’m equally pee-my-pants excited about the prosepct of a long weekend in a posh hotel. ROOM SERVICE, people – are there more beautiful words in a more beautiful order to a pregnant woman? (Answer: No.) It’s being billed as our holiday for this year, after I ruined plans for our two weeks’ summer holiday by having astoundingly sucky morning sickness.

We’re travelling down to Devon on Friday and lunching at the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster – I am looking forward to this with as much barely-disguised glee as I am the arrival of our daughter… well, nearly as much. I want ALL THE FOOD. And to meet Hugh, too. (Phil keeps telling me probably won’t be there, something to do with being very busy, having lots of restaurants and being very famous etc etc…but he might be there, mightn’t he?)

There will be shopping in the afternoon, if you’ve got the time and the shoes Exeter is a great place to wander and come across dinky little independent shops that sell all the things. My favourite sells clothes, kitchen equipment, wooden giraffes and miscellaneous doorknobs. Amazing. We actually finished off the dresser in Stella’s room with doorknobs from this shop and now my Mum has decreed that she needs 17 mismatched doorknobs for the various cupboards and drawers in her kitchen. Guess what I’ll be spending my Friday afternoon doing?!

*Whispers* I haven't finished the feet of the dresser yet, don't look.

Checking into our delicious hotel on Friday evening will probably be the highlight of my week. Until the next day, of course, when more Alsopp’s than you could be quite sure what do with descend on the hotel for nuptials of S and P. Phil’s sister is the sweetest girl alive and her soon-to-be husband a party animal with an incredibly big heart, I have a feeling the wedding is going to be utterly delightful and there will definitely be tissues in my clutch. (Unlike at Bella’s wedding, where Gemma and I cried pretty much from start to finish with not a single Kleenex between us. Fail.) As for what I dress myself and my ever-expanding stomach in, this is this week’s contender and by virtue of the fact that I have zero shopping hours until the aforementioned Friday afternoon will likely be the actual outfit. Opinions are welcomed – particularly regarding my choice of hair accessory… crystal feather or actual peacock feathers?

I’ve already had the ‘Jolly Green Giant’ comment from my delightful brother…

Once this weekend is over, readers, you will find me in my bed. For approximately three weeks. Curled up with my intimacy-destroying pregnancy pillow reading Wolf Hall, Bring up the Bodies and Gift from the Sea as per your stunning recommendations from my last book post. If, for whatever reason, you do come looking for me, I advise you to bring Boost bars (the family packs), fruit smoothies and pictures of Harry McFly. Topless. (Him, not you.)

Whaddaya mean I can’t be topless too? Braless then, as a minimum, and I promise to try not to poke you in the eye with my preggo mammaries when I climb in to bed to help you with that family pack of Boost Bars.

It sounds like a perfect weekend – lots of laughter and tears ahead, and an AOP to come as well I hope!

    Xxx

We went to the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster in July – Hugh was actually there, wearing a pink jumper no less.

This is no word of a lie!

Also, have the sausage and mash. Yummers.

Fee! You’ve just made my day. Even if he ISN’T there on Friday I can rejoice in the knowledge that he does mince around in pink jumpers mashing spuds. Phew.

Very jealous of the room service, the River Cottage and the beaut dress but I have to comment on that RING! Jaw on the floor, just gorgeous. Would love to know where it’s from…?

Hope you have a very lovely weekend away, and congrats to the happy couple! Fingers crossed the weather clears up in time (although isn’t rain on your wedding day meant to be a sign of good luck?).

Alexandra – it’s just a glass/costumey thing from a jewellery stall somewhere…I think maybe the Christmas markets in Oxford? Very pretty and sparkly, and only cost pennies, practically! (I had to nail-varnish the band to stop it turning my finger the same colour as the stone, but hey…you pay the price!)

I don’t think they’ll mind if it rains, everything is indoors at the hotel and if it is nice enough to have canapes on the patio then it’s a bonus I suppose?!

Thank you for your lovely wishes x

Now I’m nervous that you won’t like Gifts from the Sea…

Have a lovely weekend and a glorious wedding. So extremely jealous of both the River Cottage Canteen and the very sweet baby dresser.

Wow you are going to look one hot mama in that outfit! Love the idea of peacock feathers a la Carrie Bradshaw but equally do like the bling!
I also adore that ring and so do you just literally put nail varnish on costume rings??? Does that work? Just clear? It is my biggest bugbear with dress up jewels you may well be my saviour!!

    Mmmmmhhh Boost bars!!!! xx

Anyone else wishing they could look even half as effortlessly stunning and elegant non-pregnant as Aisling does with a baby bump??! Just me? SIGH.

Also, when are we seeing more photos of Bella’s wedding? WHEN?!

Finally, I now want a Boost bar. And sausages and mash. Basically, I want everything in this post, and in the comments. I have no idea why I am so needy today.

I hope your wedding this weekend is utterly glorious and filled with all the joy in the world.

*Your wedding as in the wedding you are attending, not your actual wedding, which I already know WAS glorious and filled with all the joy in the world. I am making less than no sense today.
