Any Other Photo {Steff and Gavin}

*** Readers, as it’s a bank holiday weekend, we three will see you back bright and early on Tuesday morning as we rest our blogger brains.  Clare is spending hers in Thailand.  I’m spending mine in Birmingham.  Both are equally culturally fasinating and diverse.  Have a fantastic long weekend, all ***

This AOP landed in my inbox on the train down to Cornwall, when i was supposed to be On Holiday and therefore Not Checking Emails.  I lasted about six seconds.  Because it’s Steff.  And I knew, just knew, that her AOP would be a corker.  It’s a set of three, with the funniest tale I ever did hear.  What a moment.  What a memory.  And what love!

The incredible photography by Iain and Laura Brown of Reportage Photography in Ayr.  Happy Friday, readers.  Over to you, Steff:

It was a cold December morning, the heating in the church had packed in (hence the space heater in the background actually having little more impact than creating a red glow in all the pictures), all my guests had blankets wrapped around them (best eBay bargain ever) and I was 40 minutes late.

Adrenaline was clearly my friend at this point as I had ditched my cloak and was apparently completely oblivious to the sub zero temperatures… but it wasn’t my fingers that were numb by the time it came to saying our vows, it was my brain!  It’s the most important moment of the day, the moment that every bride has rehearsed over and over in her head, the moment when we declare our undying commitment to one another and, for us, the moment which provided much hilarity on the day and a will-never-get-old family joke.

Everyone heard a different version, Gav heard “my awesome husband”, our guests heard “my awful husband” but what I actually said was “my lawsome husband”.  And so I immediately burst into a fit of giggles (photo 1), followed by rest of the church (photo 2, when I realised that everyone was laughing with me (at me?? I didn’t care I thought it was hilarious)).  I giggled for so long that the priest politely suggested that we start again from the beginning, we did, I got it right and we’re married – yay! Photo 3 is me agreeing that yes, we should probably start again.

For me it was the moment when my little bubble which contained only me and my soon to be husband burst, the haze surrounding us dissipated and I became aware of our guests, of how they were all there celebrating with us and how much I was thankful to every single one of them to be there to share in all our moments, even the the ones which don’t go quite to plan.

    I love the story (love it love it love it) but can I just have a moment to be shallow and swoon over how amazing your outfit is, Steff??? Dress, shoes, flower…and there was a cape ? I demand to see the cape!

      It wasn’t even a cape it was a CLOAK! Now I’m imagining something like the invisibility cloak from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon…

        Y’know lots of people have said Scottish Widows (RE the cloak) but I’m definitely taking Dungeons and Dragons over that!!!

        Credit for the flower has to go to Kirsty who’s awesome tutorial made it possible!

          I’m slightly ashamed to say that my first cloak thought would be Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

    Here’s a picture of the cloak! It’s amaaaazing!

    I love this AOP. We didn’t mess up our vows, but Fin’s dad, who was our minister, did crack a few jokes and it was the best thing ever – weddings can be so solemn, it’s nice to lighten the mood a little.

    Also – MY HAIR FLOWER! YAY!

    Ahem.

    Our minister completely forgot one of our hymns then realised at the end, but intstead of keeping it quiet he told everyone and made them sing it then!
