International Women’s Day: Choices

Welcome, readers, to our very special celebration of International Women’s Day here on Any Other Woman!

In Her Own Words in March last year was the first time I realised that what was on this blog was about something bigger than ourselves.   I hope we get this message across equally as vividly today.

A few months ago I wrote a post about my Great Aunty Barbara and her 1941 wedding.  It was one of the most popular posts we’ve ever run on the blog, not due to my writing but because of Barbara’s story.  The overwhelming message coming out of the discussion that that post generated was that of how women in times past fought hard to give us the choices we have today.  We can be who we want, say what we want, love who we want.  And we have those right, this freedom, because of the extraordinary sacrifices made by the women that came before us.

And so, to our theme of today.  Choices.

Logo designed by reader extraordinaire Rachel, or Rach Bakes as we know her.

Every hour on the hour throughout today, we have guest posts from a wide range of brilliant women with something important to say on the subject of Choices.  Some of these women are bloggers.  Some just wanted a platform.  All wanted to make you think.  All of them write brilliantly and have a story to tell.  The brief for “Choices” was wide open, and their posts are as diverse as they are.

We are so very honoured to host them.

So, readers.  Come back every hour on the hour.  Comment on their posts.  Tell us your thoughts on the posts themselves, on the issues they throw up.  Debate, discuss, disagree, support, question, explore.  We owe this kind of opportunity to the women who fought for the choices we have today.

We cannot wait.  Can you?

Anna, Aisling and Clare x

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
