Weekend Wonderings

Readers, it’s the weekend!  I hope you are having a leisurely coffee, perhaps chewing on a croissant.

Christmas is a month away, and I thought I’d help you out with the Christmas Present List.  Do you have a bookworm in your life?  Who am I kidding, you read Any Other Wedding, you probably ARE a bookworm.  If so, you can thank me later – your Christmas shopping can be done in one fell swoop at The Literary Gift CompanyIt’s a beauty of a website, a “one-stop-shop for all book lovers”, with a whole range of gifts for the readers and writers in your life…from a homeware, to stationery, to wrapping paper, to jewellrey.  They are particularly interested in promoting products which recycle, or ‘upcycle’ abandoned or out-of-date books.

From this Louisa May Alcott canvas shopper (they have a whole range), which I refuse to wander round London without:

All my presents must henceforth come wrapped with Virginia Woolf parcel tape with the quotation “Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope which surrounds us from the beginning of conciousness to the end” (from ‘Modern Fiction’ (1924)). The quotation “loops endlessly around the tape in this beautiful hand-lettered design”.  Um…yes please.

This is a beauty, a Map of Literary Britain and Nothern Ireland, featuring 181 geographically placed writers.  Lose yourself for hours.  There’s also a US version.

If anyone tells you they don’t want a piece of jewellrey “made from the pages from unwanted books”, they are lying.  Pearl Detail Paper Rose Brooch, a large modern hand-crafted brooch “reminiscent of the grandeur and intricate style of the Victorians”, £18.
And to finish…a thought for the weekend.  Or you could buy this Enjoy The Little Things bookmark, and be reminded of it everyday, for 95p.

I love this website, but then I think you probably knew that. I have however yet to buy anything from them.
I also love this etsy shop, though yet to buy anything from their either!
I am off to The Persephone shop today. Happy Weekending all.

    1) I want that bag. A lot.
    2) Is it weird to feel saddened by the references to abandoned books? Who is abandoning books?! I want to form a refuge home for all unwanted literature, I will never stop loving you or treating you with care, books. I don't even care if you're rubbish with no plot, character or atmosphere, I will still love you unconditionally. Even when the whole world is reading on a Kindle, I'll treasure your paperiness and keep you always.

… that answers my question, doesn't it? It IS weird. It also explains why you can't move in my flat for books!

I'm after some of the tape. I'm also a sucker for the phrase from P & P 'I cannot fix upon the hour….I was in the middle before I knew it had begun'. I'm sure it's popular with every Austen fan that was friends with her beau before they became more.

Also fangirl episode update. I met Esme yesterday. Fangirl spasm of 'OMG where is TOM' as in omgimmeetingEsmeofEsmeandTom. Sorry.

As per Twitter, Katielase I love you a borderline inappropriate amount for this comment.

And Becca, fear not. Am betting Esme loved her new celeb status. WWLD? And if you could sort me out some ribbon with the Austen quote, that'd be grand.

Anna what have you done? I LOVE that website!! I can't believe I haven't stumbled on it before now!! I love the "GO AWAY I'm reading/writing/blogging etc" mugs and bags and have already had at least four "so-and-so would LOVE that" moments and I've only just started looking at it!! This could be a very expensive evening indeed… Thanks… I think ;) xxx

P.S I have a huge AOW crush right now.
    P.P.S I really love Katielase's comment

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.
