Any Other Reader Survey 2011

I know I  speak for all three of us when I say the following: we love writing; we love you, the readers; we love writing for you, the readers.  This blog, in an uncharacteristic (for a Brit) display of horn-tooting, is a great place to be and we’re really proud of what we’ve created, that corner of the blogosphere where you can kick off your shoes and crash on the sofa with a drink and offload.  Or listen.  Or  chat.  Or do whatever the hell you please.
And that, that image right there, is what makes the hard work worth it.  Because for all the joy that writing for AOW brings, it is hard work.  Running anything with three opinionated females at the helm was never going to be a walk in the park, but add into that mix severe time zone challenges, demanding 9-5 jobs, babies, not a shred of IT capability or business acumen between us and having to learn it all from scratch, not enough cash to afford international phone calls, managing three completely different ways of working, doing all communication via email (we’re back to time differences, demanding jobs…)…and you start to see some of the difficulties we face.  Not that I’m complaining.  It’s been a huge learning curve, but we’ve loved every minute of it, and lets face it, working with two of your best friends, on something you love and are proud of, is not exactly a hardship.
Seriously.  Do any of us look like we know what the ruddy hell we are doing?   Image by the talented Rachel Tweeddale
And it’s always easier to bear when you remember that the very thing that makes life challenging, that is running a blog between three women, is the very thing that gives AOW the diversity and approach it needs to stay fresh.
And the ability to laugh at ourselves.  I have picked my face off the keyboard more than once in moments of scheduling despair and giggled my way through the next hour after reading some inane email from Aisling or Clare.
(That’s not to say all their emails are inane.  Just some of them.)
Things move on though.  We need to move on.  We can’t make Any Other Wedding what we want it to be without some serious changes to the site.  This platform has served us well for the first year and a half, and we’ve built something solid, but our ideas are bigger than solid.  We’ve been plotting and scheming for months, and we have such plans for the site, content AND layout, and we’re bursting with excitement about them.
But here’s the question.  Is what we want, what you want?
We could go ahead and launch an amazing site with gadgets and buttons and developments galore.  But what’s the point, if it takes away from what AOW means, what it is, and what it stands for?
So we need your help, just a few minutes of your time.  We really need to know what you think.  About the site, and about where you’d like it to go.  We present to you….
Hurrah! Hurrah!  And thrice hurrah!  We are slightly over-excited about this.  We’ve met some of you, we’ve tweeted and chatted to and emailed many of you, but this is the first opportunity we have had to find out what every single one of you thinks.  We want it all, the good, the bad, the whole peach and grey truth.  Any Other Reader Survey 2011 will take you five to ten minutes, depending on how much you think about the questions (hint: we’d like you to think).  It’s doable during a commute, during a coffee, when you can’t face opening another work email.
We promise to take seriously each and every one of your suggestions, and we will let you know the results in a couple of weeks – just as we are nosy parkers and want to know who you are, what you think and what you want from us, we’re sure you’d like to know what everyone else thinks, too.
Basically, we’re just three women, trying to become businesswomen, who really need your help in order to do the right thing with this blog.  And we appreciate every second of time you spend on this for us, and we promise to make Any Other Wedding the very best blog that it can be.

Thanks, readers,  If we get a good response rate on this, and we really, really want to, we promise to post the top five most inane emails we’ve ever exchanged.  You may cry.  You may lose hope in humanity.  One thing we promise you is: you will laugh for days.

Just remembered something that niggles me that i should have put down – I prefer links to open new tabs rather than whizz from whatever you're reading. No idea how to do that though.

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
