Any Other Photo {Becky and Nik}

When I received Becky’s Any Other Photo I confess that I shed a tear.  In front of Mr K.  And then pretended I had hayfever.
I love it for many reasons.  In the interests of equality, I love that this is NOT the traditional picture of the bride walking down the aisle, overcome with emotion.  I love that Becky was so eager to see her wedding pictures that she looked at them from Zanzibar.  I love that Becky and Nik planned the whole ceremony even down to where they stood so it reflected them, and what they stood for, and that it wasn’t just about words.  I love that they weren’t ashamed to show their guests how they felt saying those words.
But Becky tells it better than I:
“When I first saw this photo I immediately burst into tears.  Happy tears!  My Uncle Alan posted this photo on Facebook on the first day of our honeymoon.  (Yes, I am truly addicted to the internet and was using the hotel’s free WiFi even on my honeymoon in Zanzibar!  Although in my defence I didn’t see it until at least two days in!)  He had added the caption, The moment Nik clapped eyes on Becky as she entered the room, fashionably late.”

The reason I chose to submit this or any image is simply the expression on Nik’s face at that specific moment.  It touched me so much not only because he was clearly so emotional but that he was feeling exactly the same as me!  The photos of my face as I entered the hall are exactly the same – grinning madly with teary eyes at the sheer exhilaration of the moment, I was SO excited to see him – everyone thought I was shaking with nerves but I can honestly say it was pure excitement!  I was so glad we had arranged it so he could watch me walking up to meet him and I could see his face as soon as I walked in.  We had our whole ceremony this way, facing our guests so they could see us the whole time.

I am so delighted that my uncle was there to capture this look and wasn’t focussing on me which is, it turned out, what both official photographers were doing, missing the amazing expression on Nik’s face.  As much as I loved the attention as the bride (and I really did!), we had spent a great deal of time making our wedding about us and even wrote the ceremony ourselves, so it was really nice that my uncle captured these extra moments for us.  When I saw this one, I knew I had to send it in to Any Other Photo.  I never expected one photo to stand out so much as my favourite, especially one without both of us in it.  I still get a wee bit teary every time I look at it!”

Oh my gosh – BEX! Its you! My wedding twin!!

This photo may be one of the best ones I've ever seen of a groom. And you are completely right, whilst everyone is always looking at the bride coming in, not to many people are looking at the groom at that moment and personally, thats what I like to do at a wedding. Except at my own where I looked at everything and everyone but in an effort to not lose it!

Pretty please can we see some more of Bex's piccies??

You lucky devil having this amazing photo of your husband. I'd love to have had a pic of my hubs as I entered the church. I couldn't see him through my own tears x

Love this! Mr TBW wasn't 'allowed' to turn round and look at me (it was a long walk up the aisle I tell you without being able to see his face), and on the wedding video you can hear him say 'oh, someone's coming'….who did he think was coming?!

He was damn happy to see me when he reached the top of the aisle though!

Oh I love this picture Bex!! You're right, it's a shot that's often missed. Well done Uncle Alan for grabbing it.

Our photographer got that shot of Sam, and he looks like he's going to pop he's smiling so much (and clapping his hands like a little kid about to get an icecream, bless him). That tearful/nervous excitement is such a euphoric, amazing feeling. Thankyou for sharing this with us and taking me back! I feel all soppy now.

I lovelovelove all these amazing shots we're being sent for AOP-it's the ones you don't expect that are making my heart flutter and yours is a stunner, Bex.

And what a gorgeous write-up too, you're clearly a magical couple.

Consider that request for more pictures seconded! Or thirded, fourthed…whatever! We want to see MORE!

This is such a lovely photo and great choice, you've left us all wanting to see more Bex!

It's so great that Nik's face was captured at this moment. What a wonderful moment in time to be able to look back on! I don't have any of my man like this and he wasn't allowed to turn around either – dam church protocol! I started to get tearing as I was walking down the aisle but as soon as I reached him I was just beaming a big Mahj-AOP-style grin!

This has cheered my Friday afternoon right up!

Well chuffed with that. Staying focused on the groom was a good idea then.
