Any Other Party – who made it happen?

Firstly – we are still blushing from all of the ridiculously flattering comments you left for us on last week’s Any Other Photo, so thank you. And yes, Aisling’s legs really ARE that long. As Lucy said – no amount of clever photography could make Aisling’s legs look as high as Clare’s boobs unless they really were.

But enough of Aisling’s wondrous legs, and moving on to more about Any Other Party. Later this week we have the final wrap up post with some fabulous pictures of the attendees, as well as some of our favourite moments.

Today though we wanted to focus on the lovely people who helped make the party happen. These people all offered their services to beautify either us or the party, or to take pictures of you lovely lot so that we had some long lasting memories of the night.

Every single one of these people went above and beyond what we could possibly have expected from them. They came from across the country, expecting nothing more than a cocktail in payment, and truly brightened the night for all of us. They are all a joy to be around, and exactly the type of person you would want to have around you on your wedding day, so we absolutely insist that if you are looking for suppliers, you contact one of these fabulous people first. Okay?

First up – The Hairdresser. I think I’ll leave this one to Anna to tell you about – you’ll see why…

When you open a hotel room door to a world-famous hairdresser, I’ll tell you the way you do not want to greet him.  ”Oh My F***”.
In my defence, I was not expecting Severin Hubert of the Hepburn Collection to turn up at the door.  I thought I was opening the door to the pizza delivery guy.
The second thing you don’t want to do is stroke his arm and repeatedly ask him if he is real.
It’s ok though, Sev took my fangirl spasms totally in his stride. Clare and Aisling knew that having my hair done by Sev was on my list of Things I Must Achieve Before Thirty.  As such, they emailed Sev and Ros a month previously and found them warm, professional and willing to go out of their way to help us out, and surprise me.
Sev went out of his way battling rush-hour London traffic to get to our hotel, spent 40 minutes on my hair, and in that time gave it a life and volume it never knew it had in it. The man is, quite literally, a genius.  Rebecca Norris put it perfectly when, whilst closely examining Sev’s manipulations on my barnet, declared it to be “like watching open-heart surgery”.  As well as turning my lacklustre hair into something that defied description,  Sev took my brief and turned it inside out and handed me hair that was so much better than anything I’d anticipated.  The man is a magician.

Yes – you too could look this good if Sev spent time on your hair. Image by super talented Rachel Tweeddale

When you have incredible hair, you feel like you can achieve anything. That’s the feeling you want on your wedding day.  I cannot recommend Sev enough.  He is charming, talented, and will make you look (and feel) the very best of yourself.
He and Ros are true professionals, and we simply can’t thank them enough.

I also need to add that after he’d finished making Anna look absolutely stunning, he then spent five minutes ‘froofing’ (technical term) Aisling’s, Rach’s and my own hair, and in those five minutes he made our hair look better than it ever had. Ever. This man has talent. Call him please.

Next - The Make-up Artist

Carolanne Armstrong. What can we begin to say about Carolanne? Except that believe me, we don’t ever look this good:

Image by the lovely lovely Lucy Stendall

Carolanne came into our crazy, overheated travelodge room just as we all arrived, and took all of our squawking and over excitement at seeing each other totally in her stride. This is someone that you want with you on your wedding morning. Someone who seems to somehow fully join in with the girliness, yet still brings a real feeling of calm to the room.  That ladies, is what you’re looking for in a make-up artist. That and to make you look like a beautiful version of you, of course. And obviously that’s what she did.

We each had totally different ideas of how we wanted to look, from Aisling’s 60′s sex-kitten eyes, to Anna’s gorgeous red pout, and with no fuss at all, Carolanne came in and did exactly what we wanted – and more. She somehow took the pictures we’d hastily ripped out of magazines and used them as a base, but made the looks work for us. And she did this with less than thirty minutes on each of us, with no trial. Imagine how utterly fabulous she could make you look given more time?

I make no apologies for this picture – this is how chuffed you look with yourself when Carolanne has done your make-up and Sev has froofed your hair. Image by Rachel Tweeddale.

And the best thing of all? She came to the party afterwards, and everyone who met her loved her. Seriously, if you’re looking for a make-up artist who you genuinely will want to be friends with, and who really listens to what you want, Carolanne is the lady.

The Cakes….I’ll leave this up to Aisling…

The ever lovely RachBakes. Image by Rachel Tweeddale

That’s Rach. RachBakes. We have a vaguely childish habit of calling her that, because… wait for it…she bakes. (I know, we’re hilaaarious and ironic, no?) She bakes the most amazing cupcakes with lightest, fluffiest, creamiest and straight-up YUMMIEST icing that also look incredible. You’d be better off with Rach’s cupcakes than you would any run-of-the-mill High Street bakery (or High End bakery), and that is a fact.
As if it weren’t enough that she could put you into the world’s most satisfying sugar coma, she’s also SO lovely. So lovely you can’t help but fall in complete friend-love with her the first time you meet, as Clare found out on the Friday afternoon of AnyOtherParty. She not only hauled our cupcakes up from Southampton on the train, she helped wrestle hotel windows with us, went to collect the celebrity hairdresser, spent a solid portion of the afternoon going up and down in the hotel lift picking up pizza, people and room keys. We absolutely could not have made it to AnyOtherParty without her-she has the sweetest and most calming nature and is a joy to be around. We’re proud to call her our friend.
The Photographers…
After our beautification by Carolanne and Sev, we nervously headed to the party, but not without a quick stop at St Pancras station to have our pictures taken by Lucy Stendall and Rachel Tweeddale.
In rush hour.

Teetering on heels.
Whilst we started off feeling absolutely ridiculous, (Anna kept having to say “it’s London, they’ve seen much worse”), and being stared at by tourists, Lucy and Rachel created magic. And if they can do that there, with us, you just *know* that they will do that and more for your wedding photographs.  Lucy and Rachel are exactly the kind of people Any Other Wedding want to support; they share our ethos and our commitment.  It’s their photos you see today on this post (and will see SO many more of later in the week, this is just a tiny taster), and we simply can’t thank them enough.
If you are looking for a photographer for your wedding, you need to make contact with either of these two.

Rachel travelled all the way down from the Midlands, having never met any of us before, with no idea what she was letting herself in for, and as you can see from the pictures (so many more to come later in the week), got stuck in and just took the most fabulous photographs. Rachel manages to capture the moment exactly as you will remember it, and does it in such an un-intrusive way, you have no idea she’s there. Occasionally you’d catch sight of her over someone’s shoulder, or through a gap in the crowd, and you could just tell from her face that she was capturing photographs which she was proud of, and the we would love. What more could you want from a wedding photographer?
Image captured by the fabulous Rachel Tweeddale.

And Lucy - well you already know how much we adore Lucy. She is possibly one of the longest and definitely the most loyal supporter of AOW, and we like to call her our official ambassador. She has the same outlook as us us, and therefore loves working with people like you – people who want to cut the crap about weddings, and look at them honestly and openly (yet still like a bit of the pretty).  In fact, she’s already been booked by several of you and we honestly CANNOT WAIT to see them because we *know* that any collaboration between you and the uber-talented Lucy is just going to be wonderful. She truly lights up the room when she’s there, and there is absolutely nothing that will help you relax more when having your picture taken, than seeing Lucy actually squeal out loud and jump up and down in excitement about the picture she’s just taken. Nothing.

This is how happy you look when  Lucy Stendall is taking your picture.

So there you have it. The people who made Any Other Party happen.
We thoroughly recommend each and everyone of them as suppliers. And as potential friends.
Keep an eye out later in the week for more examples of their wonderful work, as well as our take on how it all turned out.

I'm sorry, I'm still distracted by Aisling's legs!! Oh how I wish I could look like thee in a dress, instead of short n stumpy me!

Having had my hair magicked by Sev and Ros, I can only agree with Anna K wholeheartedly that the man is a GOD!

Am really so excited to see the piccies from AOP and will try and keep the green eyed monster under wraps when I see what an amazing time you all had!

I want to be 'froofed' and wear fabulous earrings and sashay elegantly down London streets while lovely ladies take pictures of me!

The getting ready alone sounds like a hoot, so I can't wait to hear about the actual party.

It also makes me want to cry a little that I wasn't there to see Aislings legs/Clare's bump/Anna's pout and eat Rach's cakes in person!

Not only do you all look uber gorgeous and then some after Carolanne's beautiful make up but she is such a lovely person. I really enjoyed talking with her and if I was needing a makeup artist then I'd choose her for how calm, friendly & good she'd be to be there with mayhem and nerves abounding.

You all know I love Carolanne *ahem* and boy did she do a fabulous job. I cannot wait to work with her again and then secretly dupe her into working her wonders on my own face. Shh…

Rachbakes, your cake creations tasted all the better for that peach frosting. Yummers. I could eat a whole tray of that cakey goodness.

AOP night was epic. For me, it will go down in history as the first Severin Hubert hair I've ever photographed. Good LORD I pray it isn't the last. Masterpiece.

And finally, thank you ladies for the fabulous endorsement. I cannot wait to photograph my AOW brides nuptials next year. Thank you so much for your unfailing support and encouragement. MWAH! xxx

I have a girl-crush on you all after the party, but an especially big one on 'Rachbakes' because after bending her ear pretty much *all night* at the do, we became twitter friends and she sent me one of her cupcake recipes over the weekend to attempt with my nieces. She had clearly bewitched it as I normally can't bake for toffee, and we turned out a batch of 50 and then iced them. and now my whole family loves her too.

You ladies look GORGEOUS! I love every single image ~ especially the SATC one of you all sashaying down the street and laughing.

I also adore the vendor love emanating from this post. Sev coiffed my hair for my wedding and I wholeheartedly agree with everything you say, the man is a legend. Everyone involved in the AOW party did a fab job!
