11 Minutes

Morning people – Aisling here… Confession time.
I want a wedding album.
I want one SO much.
I know, mature. I’ve given so much thought to how it will look, the layout of the pages and which images will sit alongside each other. How the glossy pages will feel and how the leather (I’ve got it down to dove grey, lavender, sage green or duck-egg blue) will smell. So yeah, I WANT one.
Thing is though, we don’t NEED one. And so whilst we can’t afford it, we just have to put up and hush up.
BUT. We have a wee trick up our sleeves. A trick I learnt from Clare, when she made a slideshow of her wedding pictures to share with her friends and family back in the UK.
Hers was so beautiful that I thought it’d be silly not to give it a go myself, despite being massively technically inept. After many, many hours of Skype tuition from the pro, lots of swearing and editing and cutting and attaching songs together, this was the result. And I am really very proud to share it with you. If you’re not interested in the slightest, that’s ok. Because we LOVE it.
(As the title suggests, it’s 11 minutes long. And there’s music. So, possibly not for work. Or, definitely for work but with headphones and whilst the boss is at lunch.)

WOW! That is brilliant! I love all the photos and every song that you have on there too!

You looked beautiful and so do all your guests, plus the last part looks like the most fun at a wedding ever!

Ah, thank you, Me! Who isn't *actually* me, I promise…!

I love the music so much, too. It just makes me happy!

And it was definitely a lot of fun-as you can see!

Cannot wait to see this when i get home later! We also don't have a wedding album and certainly can't afford one right now unfortunately, so this may be something I have to attempt! xxx

So I've managed to watch it on my iPhone but know that hasn't done it justice. Things I loved more than anything all the hands touching images & the cake images.

    What's the soundtrack, A?

I love the guest portraits. Simon F is a genius. And of course the pics of you and Phil aren't too shabby either. Well done on mastering the technical expertise necessary to do this! I have a load of video clips from my wedding to paste together…reckon you could loan C out to help me?

RachBakes-loving the Username…! And believe me, if I can master the art of Picasa, ANYONE can. I guarantee it.

JHD-When I'm having a particularly horrific (read, slightly annoying) day at work, I watch this on my iPhone and everything seems a little better…

K-it's Peter Gabriel's 'Book of Days', Temper Trap's 'Sweet Disposition' and Sixpence None the Richer's 'Kiss Me'. Happy, happy memories.
And sure, you can have C…be sure to have plenty of Mini Eggs and Salt&Vinegar; crisps in though…

LOVE! Cheered up a dreary Tuesday morning – thank you!

Have you thought about making one of your own? I used Blurb (www.blurb.com) to make "thank you" albums for the BMs and best men and then made one of the honeymoon. Have since become a bit obsessed and made a memory book for my best friend's 30th and I'm working on making albums of all my travels over the last ten years… so easy to use, reasonably priced and a great interim measure until your duck egg blue leather one comes along! :-)

Holy balls, we get to see all of Aisling's wedding pics! And in montage form – I bloody love a montage! Soooooooo beautiful.

Aww, this has thoroughly cheered me up today (all 11 mins of it! I was stealthy in work!) and am now humming 'Kiss Me' under my breath. Which reminds me of Freddie Prinze Junior for some reason?? I think it might have featured in a film he was in or something. Or else its just weird!

We've just got our photos through and are meeting out tog next week to discuss options. I think though we will get a disc of them all and make our own albums. So Victoria, muchos gracias for the Blurb recommendation!

Lovely, delish photos Aisling – and not just of the cakes! Also, and this may be a tad inappropriate but you had like, the best looking male guests I think I've ever seen!!

Love the slideshow, no speakers on my computer so can't appreciate the music!

I can't imagine not having a wedding album, I don't imagine anyone will want to look at it apart from me (probably not even my husband-to-be!). But I love looking through my parents and at my grandparents diamond wedding anniversary it was amzing to look through theirs. So even if mine sits covered in dust for 60 years I know it'll be appreciated one day!

Oh Aisling, it's fabulous. Love your choice of music too.

I think an album is a necessity though.

We used pixum for wedding albums, as I couldn't justify the professional photographer album cost. There are lots of voucher codes you can use. We ordered books for parents and grandparents. Each time we ordered a book we used a different email address, which meant that we could keep using the same voucher code.

Aisling, this is gorgeous! You and Phil are like the most beautiful couple ever! Yours is still one of my favourist weddings over on RMW ever!

And I lurve sweeeeeeeeet dis po sition (like it's sung), fab song choices!

We've not yet chosen a wedding album, having just got married we don't have the money either. I think we will eventually though because, like Kate said, I loved looking through our parents' albums before our wedding. Definitely going to check out these recommendations though, especially for books for parents. Good call.

P.S. Our photographer did a slideshow for us (no Picasa for me, huzzah!) and sent it to us on honeymoon and I kept watching it over and over and over…

Bahhhh it keeps crashing my computer with its awesomeness!!! I LOVE that Temper Trap song. I swear to see this before the day is out!

Spooky – I love how AOW seems to know what I'm thinking/doing! I've spent ALL WEEKEND trying to make one of these on Picasa but I can't get it to play more than one song! Aisling – I realise this isn't a geeky tech forum – but any tips would be so appreciated!!

I will be watching this as soon as get home – before I even have that standard lump of cheese that I seem to need the second I get through the door. I was borderline obsessed with Aisling's wedding on RMW last year so this will be a treat!x

Mahj – It's 'She's All That' you're thinking of. I AM SUPER COOL!

And if my wedding photos turn out half as lovely as these, I will be beside myself with excitement. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

  17. Posted September 27, 2011 at 4:10 pm | Permalink

Hahahahahah Mahj – totally inappropriate. Yet totally and utterly true. I love you.

Sarah – AOW resident techy here (which means precisely zilch, just that I know where the on/off switch is on my computer – the bar is not high here at AOW HQ) You can't add more than one track in Picasa – which means you have to make your tracks into one track. I downloaded a free programme which I can't remember for the life of me the name of, something like MP3splitter or something similar which allows you to either split tracks into smaller segments or add several tracks together. If you google 'joining mp3's or some other such nonsense I'm sure you'll find it. Then allow approximately 17hours for faffing around and working out how to use the damn thing, and voila, you have one track, ready to upload to Picasa. I'm pretty sure that was no help whatsoever, but I tried.

And Aisling – you know how much I love this slideshow. And every time I see one of your wedding pictures I wish to goodness I'd found Simon Fazackerley before our wedding. Jealous, much?

  18. Posted September 27, 2011 at 4:13 pm | Permalink

Ha @Sarah, I would describe myself as borderline obsessed with Aisling's wedding in the lead up to our wedding too! I told her as much at the AOP and didn't think she believed me and any attempts at convincing her would've just made me sound all trench-coatish ;) ps Bob's books do lovely albums too and I think if your choice is pretty enough you can actually win the cost back or something along those lines… worth having a look maybe?

She's All That! Ohmigosh. I recall being told off in a cinema for throwing popcorn at a group of boys watching that piece of cinematic genius. Amaze.

Thank you for all the recs re 'temporary' albums whilst I await my pastel-coloured-leather-wonder, I think it's definitely something we'll look into. But yes, I agree with everyone-I love the thought of a far-off-into-the-future grandchild looking through a big ol' heavy album, wondering why on earth Grandpa thought it was ok to wear jeans to his own wedding reception.

Sarah-what Clare said. To pick on a specific part of her advice-GOOGLE. Google til your eyes cross, really obvious sentences like 'playing a slideshow in picasa with more than one song' and 'how do you turn an mp4 track into an mp3 track?' I'm google's target market, for sure.

Mahj-our male friends and reli's are HAWT, that's a fact. Inappropriate, whatevs.

Thank you for all taking 11 minutes out of your day-I promise to do the same for all of you whenever you'd like. Particularly if there's alcohol involved.

I'm not even married yet and I'm thinking of songs for my album…
Thank you very much for sharing your photos, it looked like a cracking day! X

Fab – or batshit amezzin to coin an A-ism ;)

So nice to see this again, as It wasn't me who put your wedding together on RMW I hadn't seen a lot of these and they just blew me away all over again. Great idea too…

    Gorgeous. You lucky thing.

    (I want one!)

    P.S. @Mahj, Kiss me = Freddie = She's All That!

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.
