Big news.

Well…for me anyway.

Ever since it was announced that I was pregnant, the first question that everyone has asked me has been ‘Will you have the baby in Russia?’…to which my answer has always had to be a bit vague.

You see, what I knew, but wasn’t allowed to say anything about (corporate secrecy and all that jazz), was that the very same day we found out that I was pregnant, Andy had been for an interview for a job.

And a couple of months later, after several more rounds of interviews, Andy was offered the job.

A job not in Russia.
Or the UK.
A job in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
So, in two weeks time (fear not, I will still be coming to Any Other Party – try and stop me), with me at nearly seven months pregnant, and with one (probably quite angry) cat in tow, we shall be getting on a plane and flying our entire lives to the other side of the world.
I’ve never actually been to Kuala Lumpur, and Andy has been there once a long time ago, but was horribly ill and doesn’t really remember it that much, so it’s all a bit of an unknown for both of us (although Anna’s glowing review of it has certainly helped put my mind at rest that I’m not going to absolutely hate it. If all else fails I shall just eat until I’m happy again).
It will be a massive challenge, and I’m sure there will be times where I will have had enough and Anna and Aisling will be having to persuade me not to get on a plane and come back to the UK Right. This. Minute. But it’s also ridiculously exciting, and an experience that I’m really looking forward to embracing and sharing with my new family. I’m incredibly proud of my husband who was worked so hard to get this promotion and will be doing everything I can to support him in his frankly HUGE new responsibilities.

So, what with growing a human being *and* moving to the other side of the world my posts may be a little bit sporadic over the next few months, but I promise you will be hearing from me at least weekly still. And interspersed with my normal drivel about weddings and marriages, I’ll also be updating you regularly on the experience of ‘moving my marriage’, as well as (the quite frankly, infinitely more scary prospect) of giving up my career and becoming a ‘stay at home mum’ and all that that entails.

On the plus side though, at least we no longer have to dress like Michelin Men.

Wow Clare this is amazing news. Like seriously amazing!
I went to Kuala Lumpur on my honeymoon and its an awesome city. Bit mental and drivers never let you cross the road, but the food will definitely make up for it – speaking of which, will you do posts about the food?!

Amazing news Clare. Congratulations to hubby on the new promotion!

Really looking forward to, what I'm sure will be fascinating and fabulous, posts on being a wife and stay-at-home mum in a new country. What an adventure!

    That is exciting.

    Congratulations to all of you!

Mahj – For you, and only for you, I will make it my mission to eat as much as possible and write about it. The sacrifices I make for this blog are endless.

thebabywife – I'm thinking the next Any Other Party should be in KL, yes?

Alex – PLEASE come and be my personal healthcare team?! Do you do maternity too by any chance?

JHD – It really is the perfect excuse for shopping. I have already started, believe me.

Esme and Anna – thank you! It is simultaneously exciting and terrifying!

This is amazing news Clare, and as JHD says, new summer wardrobe alert! You must be so proud of Andy, and big up your own boots for doing something so gutsy at 7 months pregnant.

KL is an incredible city, I've only spent a few days there but it blew my socks off. The Petronas towers are retail heaven! It's also near one of my favourite places in the world- Penang. If you haven't been and get a chance to go (those newborns do travel well – make the most before they start toddling!) the food there was the best I have ever eaten, and they have snake temples and monkey forests and an unbelievable amount of fascinating history. And the people are SO so friendly. Malaysia rules – you've landed with a good spot!

Oh Clare, life does take some exciting turns. :)

Congratulations to Andy on his fantastic promotion. I have a second cousin who's husband works for an investment bank based in Singapore. She lives out there with him and their two young children. They all love it. It was only meant to be for a couple of years, to earn a shed load of money, and return to UK. Seven years on, and still no intention of returning. She has a house maid (everyone does apparently), and a swanky apartment.

How exciting! I'm feeling decidedly boring right now, having never lived outside Scotland, not even for a month. Feel like I've missed out, especially compared to such jetsetters as yourself!
Have a brilliant time. My friend is from Malaysia and it sounds incredible. I couldn't make her wedding there this year :( but apparently Lang Kawi is amazing too

Wow!! Big congratulations to Andy on his promotion, you must be very proud :) Really exciting times ahead for your little family with a new addition on the way and a whole new place to live. It will be fabulous. I'm completely in awe of you packing up and moving halfway across the world at 7 months pregnant btw, Andy is v lucky to have such a supportive wife.

So glad that we get to meet you at AOP before you jet off though!

Good luck Clare! It sounds like a fabulous move, you must be nervous and excited and a mix of emotions all at once. Really hope you enjoy it over there, and what a story to tell your little baby when they grow up!

What an exciting time! No doubt it will have it's scary moments but what an adventure you will have – and how cool will the baby sound when it's older and can casually say it was born in KL? C-O-O-L.

And I will be in KL on my honeymoon in November so can bring you and the baby home in my suitcase if you get too homesick!

That is the cutest picture ever!

As you know, I am super excited for you, if a little gutted that the baby won't be wearing a mini fur hat because actually *that* would have made the cutest picture ever.

So excited to see you at AOP and say congratulations in person! x

Kirsty – I think Clare owes us a furry hatted baby pic regardless of whether she is in Russia or not.

It's going to be a wonderful move for you, it really is xxx

Although I'll miss you and my surrogate niece or nephew (and Andy, of course!) so much that I'll likely Skype-Cry for at least a month, I am so utterly in awe of what you're doing and so excited to get to witness this next mind-blowingly awesome chapter of your lives.

Huge congratulations to Andy on his promotion! Exciting times for your family. Will be thinking of you during the move and hoping all goes well, in every way. Looking forward to hearing lots more about it, x

If anyone can move to the other side of the world 7 months pregnant it's you. And you'll be dressed in gorgeous clothes and have perfect hair and flawless make up.

Yes, you do make my life look pretty boring. But I am still happy for you, of course.

All I'll say is it's a good job I don't skype you with the webcam or you'd be seeing my jealous face.

Whilst we're on the topic…can I ask that you go to New York next? I know, I should probbers let you settle it first blah blah, but this is important. Mention it to Andy, yes?

Big loves to you, Andy and the tidiest bump this side of the equator. Can't wait to see you next week xxx

That is super exciting! What a huge adventure and for the little one who will be exotic before he/she is even born! ;-) Looking forward to meeting you at the AOW party!

Huge congrats to Andy – very exciting news for both of you! I've spent a lot of time in Malaysia, and it's a fabulous country, and KL is one of my favourite Asian cities. Plus it's a great place from which to explore the rest of the region…
The food, like Mahj says, is such a highlight – whatever you do, make sure you go to Sri Nirwana in Bangsar for banana leaf curry as soon as possible. You will not regret it!
As someone who was born out in that part of the world, I'm obviously rather biased, but I think it's a great place to begin life – you'll probably find your babba grows up with a great affinity for the region, regardless of how long you end up living out there. :)

WOWZER! Congratulations to you and your hubby, that is some seriously exciting shizzle!!! I'd also like to echo everyone elses comments about how boring you make me realise I am with your international lifestyle, and join in the calls for pics of the bubba in furry hats (actually preferably worn by all 3 of you and on a beach).

Mahj, I went to KL on my honeymoon, too! Trust me, it is shop-tastic and very, very fun! Wishing you all the best xx

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
