Any Other Photo {Kiara and John}

Now. I know we’re not supposed to have favourites, but this picture has to be one of my all time favourites submitted as an Any Other Photo. Yes, we’ve had others that are beautiful, that capture the moment, and that *mean* something, and I’ve loved every single one of them. This one though just makes me smile (and Anna, I quote ‘grin like a loon’) every time I look at it - you’ll see why.
When Kiara (whose wedding video you also MUST go and see) submitted this she was a bit worried about it not being serious enough. We say pffft to that. We love all Any Other Photos – serious, loving, silly or emotional. So let this be a lesson – send in your pictures please – but first leave Kiara a comment telling her exactly how great this photo is. Thanks ever so.
We have 392 photographs of our wedding from our wonderful photographer Emma Case and I love them all. I love them so much that I’ve barely looked at other people’s photographs from the day.

However, the one photo that I did see early on and saved was this one which thanks to the power of my smartphone I instantly uploaded to facebook while on honeymoon with the caption ‘balloon girl weds’.

This photo made me laugh (after an initial “oh god” moment) and reminded me not to take myself too seriously even when organising something pretty serious and I did take wedding planning seriously. I took to it well, pouring over blogs, preparing spreadsheets and lists and frantically searching for those giant balloons which I just had to have.

Our two families worked the day before our wedding setting up the fairylights, decorating the tables and blowing up those giant balloons which are actually pretty scary to inflate. Having everyone work together to bring my lists and ideas to life was amazing and when it all came together, it looked magical. Never did I image though when setting up the balloons that one of them might align on the day and replace my actual head as we were saying our vows. Not exactly the picture perfect image I had in mind but despite that I do love the silliness of this photo.

    LOVE this!

    Also, I love that her wedding dress has sleeves…would love to see it in it's full splendour

    Oh this is brilliant. It's so, so funny! I love that Kiara tells this story with such humour, too… this teaches us not to take ourselves to seriously in so many ways.

    I second a call for a full-length shot of the dress!

    This has literally made my day.

    I hope Kiara won't mind if I direct you to her beautiful wordless wedding post on A Practical Wedding, which has lots of pictures of her gorgeous dress, her amazing hair, her handsome groom, her stylish decor… (can you tell I have a major crush on her wedding?):

    Kiara knows how much I want to marry her wedding already and this photo just makes me want to do it even more!

    Awww thanks guys. Let this photo be a lesson to lovers of giant balloons everywhere!

    Thanks Kirsty for linking to APW and there are more photos of the wedding on the lovely Emma Case's blog here

    The sleeves were great but not as good as my pockets – I recommend getting your dress made.

    Love love love it! This is hilarious and I think laughing at yourself is an excellent skill. My future sister-in-law has an actual phobia of balloons so they're banned at my wedding.
    I must confess I have a bit of a crush on your wedding too! Your dress is stunning. I am so jealous of my bridesmaid dresses because they have pockets, tempted to buy one for myself
