On becoming a wife {7am – 12am}

As I lie in bed listening to the bells on the church in which I will get married today chime out seven times, my bridesmaid’s alarm goes off and I finally feel like it’s allowable to get up. I’ve spent the night thinking about how wonderful it would be to just elope, but as I watch my best friend run to the window and as she drags back the curtain to let in the cold clear winters morning I am glad that I get to do this with these people around me.
Minutes later the breakfast trays arrive and all three of us manage to eat a surprising amount. A never ending flow of people begins at this point, trailing through the room like some sort of pilgrimage, each person bringing something or taking something, even if it is just a hug or words of encouragement, and again I am awed by how many people are here because they care about us, and about the commitment we are making to one another.
I make endless cups of tea for the hair dresser, more out of a need for something to do than because she really wants them, and then spend several minutes wafting around with my veil working out where to hang it to get the creases out. As I stand in the window attempting to hang the damned thing, I notice Andy and his best man going for a run and I am torn between calling out to him and ducking behind the window. I ultimately go for a combination of both, resulting in nearly hanging myself with my own veil, making a sound like an already angry cat whose tail has just been trodden on, and having the veil taken off me by bridesmaid number one ‘for my own safety’

Aside from the veil incident, the morning progresses calmly and I wonder several times if there is something that I’m missing.

    Note to self – do not attempt to multi-task whilst hanging my veil.

    These are amongst the loveliest 'getting ready' shots I've seen, so pretty and sincere.
