A Confession.

Before I start to tell you all about our wedding, I have a confession to make.
‘The Man’, is not his real name. His name is Andy.
I know, not much of a confession, but it helps me build up to the real one.
The REAL confession is that ‘Fliss’ is not my real name. My real name is Clare.
When I first started blogging though, I was horribly nervous, and had no confidence in my blogging abilities whatsoever. I gave my self a pseudonym, so that in the likely eventuality that the blog failed, or that everyone hated me, or both, I could just retreat to under a blogging free rock, happy in the knowledge that it wasn’t ME that had, failed, but in fact my alter-ego Fliss. But now it feels very strange to be opening up my heart to you, telling you all about our wedding, whilst none of you know my real name. So there you have it. I have come clean.
My name is Clare and I’m proud of it. (Sort of, but in all honesty, I’d rather be called Fliss – I mean that’s a cool name isn’t it.  For a while, I did debate trying to get everybody in the ‘real world’ to call me Fliss, but I figured this was the easier way.)

So here we are, Clare and Andy, newly married, with one cat, who really IS called ‘The Cat’. Over the next few weeks I will become Clare on the blog and Clare when I comment on your blogs, and Clare when I email you. Like changing my surname in real life, it is something that I will do gradually, at certain points when I feel comfortable with it. Bear with me.

I felt exactly the same when I started to blog, I was worried too and kept my blog private for a bit.

I like the way you called your chap 'The Man' its very Sex and the City! I also love that you cat is called 'The Cat', hahaha straight to the point! xx

I did spot that on your photographer's blog but I thought it was rude to comment about it.

After all, Fliss could be your middle name that you prefer to use, or you might just want to carry on using it even if it isn't.

As it's time for confessions, I too started a blog under a pseudonym. Not my current blog, but a starter blog that helped me get to grips with the whole blog thing.

So don't feel bad, I think lots of people do it.

Oh and for the record, I like the name Clare. Especially that spelling because it reminds me of the Clare de lune music.

PS. As if this blog would fail – pah!

    What?! You're not called Fliss?!

Um… I'm joking. I knew. That's MY confession for today! It's a rather large relief for me, I keep writing Clare in my posts and having to do a 'Clare Check' as well as a spellcheck!

    Proud of you, Mrs.

Clares and Claire's are cool! Also Clairs, but I don' know any of those.

I echo Lucy… as if this blog could fail!

PS I am really Claire, though the rest is still secret

@ Loulabelle – Thanks! The Cat has only just graduated from being The Kitten, which we thought, as she is coming up to two years old, we ought to do something about. She answers to neither of the names so it's all a bit academic anyway.

@ Lucy – thanks – funnily enough it IS actually my middle name (well, Felicity is actually my middle name – vaguely funny story, my dad wanted to call me Felicity, but my mum vetoed it because she knew it was purely down to the fact that he fancied Felicity Kendall. Second vaguely funny story – until the age of 6 I was convinced that my middle name was in fact Lettuce, which as you can imagine, did not endear my middle name to me).

@Aisling – Come on then, now that I've admitted it, when are you going to come out and admit that your name is really Barry and that you are a truck driver from North Wales..?

@ Claire – I know – so many times I wanted to say ooh that's MY name too, except I spell it a bit differently. But I couldn't. But now I can.

OOH Claire, that's my name too!

Evidently all the best people are called Claire/Clare/Clair

@ Anna K – fear not, the wedding is coming. I just need to try to come up with the words to describe it all. Installment One tomorrow though, cross my heart promise with cherrys on top.

I always think of Felicity Kendall when I see the name. Even before Strictly. I love the good life though.

How did you think your middle name was Lettuce?! I'm confused. Barry, help!

Also, can we all listen to Anna K, we do want wedding, stop distracting us all! humph x

@ Lucy I know, I'm not entirely sure where Lettuce came from, but I'm guessing that it somehow originated from me being unable to say Felicity, so just going for the nearest word I could find. I can offer no other explanation.

Hi all, Barry here. (You need to imagine a Welsh accent…)

I think, Lucy, it's because to a cute lil 6 year old, Felicity might sound a tad like Lettuce. If said 6 year old wore earmuffs all the time…!

Love it (repeats Fliss/Lett-iss lots of times until it makes sense) x

Oh Clare – that's been something I've been thinking about changing as obviously JHD isn't my name. I think it depends on which blogs you're reading when you start your own one up, if you give yourself a pseudonym or not. Hmm maybe that's one for the new year…
Will the next post be wedding – we want all the details -lots of words, thoughts, feelings and photographs.

well, I think Clare is an excellent name (for obvious reasons!)

I too, usually post under a pseudonym but I can't remember my google account password to change myself on here!

Strange my 'the cat' isn't called that in real life – but I'm not telling you what her real name is bwahhaaah.

Hi Clare – I might continue to think of you as Fliss though, my brain is like that.

    Dear Clare (Fliss),
I am called Fliss!! And I just want to let you know that although it is a good name cos it's unusual, it can also be a pain in the behind. I have been called many variations (the main one's being Chris or Christy [for Felicity]), and most of the time I have to repeat my name several times before people get it, and then I have to say 'short for Felicity' to clarify – it makes introductions a bit complicated, and in some cases I have thought about just saying a different name to make it simple….but that would probably lead to having to make weird explanations later….

I love the fact that your alter-ego is called Fliss though, am thinking of having my own alter-ego just for fun – maybe it'll be Clare!!
