Looking back…

I’m excited. Fliss and I have had a good ol’ catch up via the genius that is Skype and Lordy do we have some plans for this beauty of a blog! As I said to the lady herself, I don’t know quite where we’re going-but I know it’s gonna be pretty awesome.
So, I’m off work at the moment-which is FABulous-and consequently am really noticing the days getting shorter, evenings becoming increasingly colder and Winter generally setting in. I’m not sure, having only lived in one teenytiny country cottage, but I’m fairly sure that living in a teenytiny country cottage makes  Winter much more Wintery. We’ve already had delivered 2 tonnes (TWO!) of logs for our fires and had to change the timers on the driveway lights. Already planted the daff bulbs ready for next Spring and cleared out this years summer vegetable patches. This is all spankingly great though-I love winter. Prefer it to summer if I’m honest. That said, for obvious reasons, Summer 2010 was fairly special for me. For us. So I’m going to attempt a sort of round-up…and having played with a draft version last night with Phil, I encourage you gorgeous lot to do the same-it was hilarious, touching and slightly ridiculous. Just like us…in my dreams!
©      I don’t know if you heard…but I got married.
©      It’s in no way a ‘posh’ wine, but I discovered Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. And haven’t looked back.
©      Our ‘incredibly pretty’ (the vet’s words-and mine…) cat Lucy, gave birth to four beautiful kittens-Chess, Buttons, Cleo and our baby, Harry.
©      I found a teapot with the alphabet on it. In our loft. No lid mind, but the alphabet…
©      Did I mention I got married?!
©      I met the witty, sarcastic, eloquent, cutting, expressive beauty that is Anna K. And hope to count her as a friend for the foreseeable future.
©      I learnt to bake carrot cake. Droooooool.
©      I saw Scouting for Girls in Portsmouth. On my 23rd birthday. And I don’t care who knows it.
©      We upgraded to Sky HD. Doesn’t affect me in ANY way, but Phil is happy. So I’m happy.
©      Galaxy introduced Counters.
©      We climbed Snowdon. Not so much climbing, plenty of walking.
©      I watched my bestest friends and closest family rally around us…for our wedding. Just not sure if I’ve covered that.
©      I purchased the most awe-inspiring dress EVER. And consequently purchased an eye-watering gym membership to ensure I can fit into it. Pfft.
©      Went on The Best Night Out Ever. Endured Hangover. Had Blue Tongue.
©      We explored Paris. It blew our minds, our souls and our hearts wide open.
©      I met* Jamie Redknapp. Hummenehumennehumena….**
©      My best friend and I watched ALL 26 episodes of Glee…almost in a row.
©      I got to tell 70 of the people I love most in the world how much my family have done for me.***
©      I got to tell 70 of the people I love the most how much I’m looking forward to building a new family with my husband.
©      Phil got a new car. No-one cares. I don’t care. Well…only in so much as it makes him happy. And means I can watch Holby in peace.
©      We were featured on RMW. Hell, RMW helped PLAN our wedding!
©      Met Simon Fazackarley. Realised we were luckiest nearly-married couple ever.
©      Sister and brother-in-law got a puppy. JEALOUS.
©      Guest posted for AnyOtherWedding. Met Fliss. Became partner in AnyOtherWedding. Squealed in excitement. For a loooong time.
©      Read one of the most beautiful books ever. Cried.
©      Then read Birdsong again just to confirm it was THE most beautiful book ever. Confirmed.
I realise, reading through this list, that there is one dominant occurrence. And I do not apologise for it. June 5th 2010 will forever be one of the very best days of our lives. The days running up to that most special of days will stay with me forever-there was little sleep and plenty of action. But there was so much talking, sharing, eating, drinking, relaxing and giggling. I learnt things about my friends, family and future husband that I hadn’t known before. The week after our wedding was gorgeous; it was sexy, slow, romantic and easy. The week before was altogether different; fast-paced, hectic, hilarious and full of mistakes. Full of laughter and time spent with people that we’ll never get to do again. Whereas we have the rest of forever to spend together.
So to you excited, giddy girls who are soon to become wives-whilst I know it sounds impossible-relax. Enjoy these last moments with that single ring on your finger, with those closest to you who love you enough to be by your side as that night draws ever closer.
I’ve really enjoyed gathering the last 4 months together in my head-even though it was ruled by one particular event! I’m going to aim to do it on a monthly basis methinks…handy.
*Saw him in Starbucks
**Remember in Friends when Monica tries to describe Mark when he offers Rachel a job-Hummenehummenehummena…
***Yes. In that picture, my new husband and my baby brother are holding hands. Yup…um…yeah…

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
