Newly Wed Diaries- the End or the Beginning?

When I received Aisling’s guest post on being a newly-wed, I was immediately excited. She totally ‘got me’, and her post fitted in so perfectly with the blog. Judging by all of your lovely comments, emails and tweets, you all thought so too. And who am I to argue with a bunch of intelligent, smart, wonderful women like you? On that note, when I started this blog, only a few short months ago, I wasn’t really sure where I was going with it. I still don’t know where I’m going with it, but what I do know is that I am totally bowled over by the hundreds of you who come and visit everyday, who leave insightful, helpful, thoughtful comments, and who just generally make this little part of the internet a pretty nice place to be. So thanks.

But I digress. I had always liked the idea of having guest posts on the blog – hearing from other women about how they’re dealing with the huge issues surrounding weddings and marriage can only help right? What I hadn’t thought about though, was sharing the blog with someone. Mid-email conversation with Aisling though (possibly when she mentioned that she worked for one of my favourite shops and could get me freebies. No, I’m kidding. Sort of), it suddenly occurred to me that, you know what, sharing the blog with someone as wonderful and smart and funny as Aisling would be pretty cool.

So, ladies, I’m pleased to announce that Aisling is the brand new shiny team member of Any Other Wedding! (Uhhh…there is only one other team member, and that’s me, so maybe ‘partner in crime’ is a better way of putting it?) We are both so excited about this (although I’m a bit nervous too – what if you guys all like her better than me?!), so I hope you’ll all give  her a warm appreciative welcome. I’m back in the UK next week doing exciting things, like hen parties and other peoples weddings and dress trying-ons, so whilst I’m away, Aisling will be in charge. Be good and be nice. Once I’m back we’ll get more into the swing of things, but for now, please bear with us.

Anyway, this is Aisling’s first post, so I will stop rattling on, and without further ado…. may I introduce Aisling…….

I’m sitting here smiling LIKE A GOON. Partly because Strictly Come Dancing has returned to my television screen…but more on that from me at a later date probably. (Probably? Who am I kidding…definitely!) My happiness has far more to do, however, with the fact that one Miss Any Other Wedding has asked me to be her partner in this Internet haven of intelligent, independent, open-minded and generally marvellous women. And I am EXCITED! In the world of UK wedding blogs, there is pretty (incredible amazing gorgeous pretty), there is vintage (genuine heartfelt heart-warming vintage), there is controversial. And then there is…there is…well…what is there? Where do the aforementioned AWESOME women go to talk about before their weddings, about their marriages, about their triumphs and their struggles?
Any Other Wedding was born. Fliss spotted the gap, she started to fill it. We ‘met’ over e-mail, exchanged life stories and became friends. We hatched a plan to fill that gap once and for all. So here we are! You know Fliss, you read her blog and you appreciate her opinions. If you LOVE the incredible Rock My Wedding for all it’s pretty pretty glory, then you may have seen my wedding and know a little about me. You should have an idea of how my first few months of marriage have felt from my guest post here on Any Other Wedding. Today I’d like to tell you a little more about myself, just so’s you can decide whether or not to bombard Fliss with e-mails declaring her insanity at taking me on, on a permanent basis! Please don’t though…I’ll be upset. And we’ve kind of made some pretty fab plans already, so….!
You know Phil and I have been married for just over 3 months. The most normal but wonderful 3 months of my life so far. In our 2 bedroom chocolate-box cottage resides me, my husband, Lucy and Harry (mummy cat and one baby cat) and Tim and Tony (the goldfish.) We had an Edward (budgie) but he and Lucy had a disagreement just after Christmas. My first serious message to you lovely lot is, don’t buy a kitten and a budgie at the same time. Please. Because our house is over one hundred years old, we also play host to the odd big hairy spider and slimy slug. I work in fashion and Phil in management; we both like our jobs but neither of us love them and despite both being well into our 20s we have no idea what we’d like to be when we grow up…C’est la Vie!
There are things in life that make me sad. These include, but are not limited to… RSPCA/NSPCC adverts, coffee, horror movies, wet-look leggings, dictatorships, political-correctness, lumpy mashed potato, John Mayer, the Northern Ireland troubles, sunburn, liars, housework, clotted cream, politics-for-the-sake-of-politics, Lost, insincerity, ill-fitting-bras, rubberneckers and people who don’t smile with their eyes.
Thankfully there are many, many more things in our lives that make me smile. With my eyes… A small selection; MY HUSBAND! scones with strawberry jam, really cold water, really hot baths, Lucy and Harry, home-grown veg, leggings, ridiculously high heels, our families, Drop Dead Fred, fresh flowers, crisp cold weather, Sherlock Holmes, my friends, wrapping presents, baking cakes, drinking tea, eBay, writing, antique furniture, reading, Winnie-the-Pooh and the Harry Potter series. Books AND films.
So that’s a little about me. I’m sure there’ll be more about me in the future and I cannot wait to learn more about you.
P.S Humour me…before RMW I wasn’t in the habit of splashing pictures of myself all over the Interweb. But a talent like Mr. Fazackarley’s deserves to be put about a bit!

You totally had me up until clotted cream – how can that make anyone sad unless it's simply a case of not being able to eat enough of it!?

Aw Ladies…. thank you for the love-it's a very exciting time for Fliss and I and we're so happy to be embarking on this slightly scary journey with you all.

Oh and Amy…I'm sorry about the clotted cream. The husband thinks I'm crazy too if it's any consolation! And it's not just clotted cream, it's yoghurt, custard, any kind of cream…bleurgh!

    Have a wonderful evening all,

Totally brilliant couldnt think of a better collaboration this is going to be great. I saw your wedding on RMW and absolutley loved it, it had lots of elements that were very similar to my own (pink lady dragons being one of them!) We also live in a old small two bedroom house we dont have kittens but instead two little westie pups. Can't wait for more good luck xxxxx

Hello! We're Clare, Aisling and Anna and welcome to a corner of the world where smart, flawed, real women talk about the bigger picture; about their experiences, stories and opinions on all aspects of being a woman today, from marriage to feminism to pretty, too.

More here.
